The Singapore Elderly and Healthcare Affordability

The Singapore Elderly and Healthcare AffordabilityThe growing population of people over 65 years of age in Singapore has drawn attention to the important issue of the affordability of healthcare for the elderly. Despite there being several healthcare schemes in place that enable access for the elderly, critical barriers to healthcare exist, including the rising healthcare costs and cases of catastrophic illnesses for which the elderly are not fully covered under any of the current healthcare schemes. This study recommends improved policies to keep healthcare costs affordable, to increase health literacy rates, and to make preventive services available and more accessible for older persons.
